The Global Shapers Community is a network of Hubs developed and led by young people who are exceptional in their potential, their achievements and their drive to make a contribution to their communities. A non-profit organization and an initiative of the World Economic Forum (WEF), The Global Shapers Community was established in 2011 by Professor Klaus Schwab. Schwab’s intention consisted of creating an international network of young leaders, who can actively participate in solution building, impact creation, and contribution to their local, regional and global communities through various projects.

Today, this grassroots movement has evolved to over 10 000 Global Shapers, including Alumni members, in 400 city-based hubs in 165 countries and territories. Under the motto “Shape your future”,the organization encourages young people to represent the winds of positive change in a wide variety of contexts. We believe in a world where young people are central to solution building, policy-making and lasting change.

The structure of the Community is self-governed but overviewed by Community Managers, who are based at WEF in Geneva. Each participating city has a Hub, where Global Shapers gather on a voluntary basis to tackle the challenges of their communities through projects, which aim at climate and environment, education and employment, and equity and inclusion among other topics that are pertinent to shaping each city’s future.

In order to become a Global Shaper, one shall be between 18 and 27-years-old and be a resident of the Hub city. Each Hub is comprised of motivated and collaborative members that are diverse in expertise, education, income and race and truly strive to improve their community through civic participation and create lasting impact.

The Global Shapers Sofia Hub was founded in 2015 and has had members from various backgrounds – social entrepreneurs, media and marketing experts, producers, lawyers, consultants, musicians, teachers, researchers, event managers, and energy Traders. The outstanding diversity of the Hub has led to the successful execution of a number of projects.
